My Career in music started as a teenager. I was lucky enough to attend a high school with an in-house radio station that I was a part of. After graduation, I went on to work at a number of radio stations along the East Coast. This taught me how to properly talk into a microphone and enunciate so whenever I speak I can be understood. Being an emcee at your event requires the attendees to understand when I am speaking.
Along the way, I became a ballroom dance instructor, teaching me what songs work for dancing and what songs are non-danceable. This taught me rhythm and how songs have energy. This is important to knowing how to keep your dance floor energetic and hopping all night long.
Years later, I moved to working in nightclubs. This is very different from radio where you hide behind a microphone in a small booth. This puts you into the public eye and requires you to know how to start the night with an energy and keep that energy flowing all night long. No one wants to attend an event with boring music. I was the house DJ for five years at a club in Metro-Detroit that was considered one of the top clubs in the country.
All along, I performed at weddings, parties, and other corporate and association events. At one time I had a multi-DJ company with 7 DJ’s on my staff in the Flint area. I learned quickly the multi DJ companies cannot deliver a quality service. When I moved to Northern Michigan, I got rid of all of my DJ’s and went solo.
Now, as DJ Mikey, my goal is to offer a service that focuses on delivering personalized quality to every person who hires me. This is my full-time job and not a hobby or side hustle. My goal is dedication to the highest standard. Communication from day one helps me understand your vision for your event so I can exceed your expectations. Your guests will say they had the best time ever. That is my definition of success.
Not many people can say they get to do something they absolutely love to do and make a living doing it. I can honestly say that. Allow me the opportunity to take my passion and make your event the, “Best Event EVER!!”
