MY STORY

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

My career began as a teenager when I attended a high school with its own in-house radio station. That early experience sparked a passion for music, entertainment, and connecting with people that has shaped my entire career.

After graduation, I worked for several radio stations along the East Coast (WFEN, WFLT, WOFM, WSKX, WMOP, WIOG, WMKC), where I learned the art of professional communication and microphone presence. Radio taught me how to speak clearly, confidently, and naturally — an important skill when guiding guests and making announcements during an event.

But music is more than announcements and playlists.

It is energy. It is timing. It is emotion.

Along the way, I became a ballroom dance instructor, teaching Ballroom, Swing, and Country dancing (Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray styles). This gave me a deep understanding of rhythm, crowd movement, and what truly keeps people on a dance floor. I learned firsthand that some songs make people move… and others clear the room.

That knowledge became one of the foundations of what I do today.

Later, I transitioned into the nightclub industry, where reading a crowd became everything (Diamonds & Spurs, Step N Out, Cactus Moon). Unlike radio, nightclub entertainment puts you directly in front of people and requires you to create momentum, excitement, and energy that lasts all night long.

I spent five years as a house DJ at one of Metro Detroit’s premier nightclubs — a venue considered one of the top clubs in the country at the time. Those years taught me how to build an atmosphere people never forget.

Throughout all of these experiences, one thing remained constant:

creating unforgettable events for people.

From weddings and school dances to corporate functions, fundraisers, community celebrations, and private parties, I have spent my life learning what makes an event truly successful.

Years ago, I operated a larger multi-DJ company, but eventually chose to focus on a more personalized experience — allowing every client to work directly with me from start to finish.

Today, DJ Mikey is built around one simple philosophy:

Every event deserves personal attention, professionalism, organization, and an unforgettable atmosphere.

This is not a side job or weekend hobby for me.

This is what I love to do.

From the very first conversation, my focus is understanding your vision, helping reduce stress, and creating an experience your guests will talk about long after the event is over.

Because at the end of the night, success to me is simple:

Your guests saying:

“That was the BEST Wedding ever.”

And honestly…

Not many people get to spend their life doing something they truly love.
